The evening's host burst into the candle-lit private dining room at The Clocktower, clearly flustered and breathless, exclaiming, “Someone has taken my Manolos!” Instantly, all attention shifted to Badara Fall. However, the playful nod to Carrie Bradshaw quickly became a source of amusement, and the room’s chatter resumed.
Rest assured, Badara Fall was very much still sporting his own pair of Manolos—sleek black patent loafers adorned with a charming bow. This theatrical moment was crafted for the model and street style icon's social media followers; it was yet another of his creative efforts aimed at fostering community spirit among everyone present, which was truly the essence of the night.
Both Manolo Blahnik and Badara Fall encapsulated the true meaning of community that evening. It was the Tuesday leading up to New York Fashion Week (NYFW), a day brimming with back-to-back events, and yet, those who gathered at The New York Edition were eager to pause the chaos and enjoy a laid-back evening together. Upon entering, guests were immediately transported to the luxurious ambiance reminiscent of the glamorous 1980s in the lavish Gold Room. Models Amina Ladymya and Aweng Chuol leisurely enjoyed Manolo Margaritas near the pool table, where Badara Fall engaged in a friendly game with Ian Jeffrey.
As guests were ushered into the grand parlor for dinner, excited gasps filled the air. Seated at each place setting was a custom-framed illustration of the attendee, created by the talented artist Pepe Muñoz. "This marks my tenth year in the fashion industry, coinciding with the 100th year of Black History Month," he announced as he raised a toast to the gathering. "Being here with all of you means the world to me. You each inspire and motivate me deeply."
As plates of succulent filet mignon and halibut were served, drinks flowed freely alongside stimulating discussions, while the host made his rounds, ensuring he personally greeted every guest. He shared how he had stayed awake past midnight meticulously crafting the seating chart. His intention was to avoid having best friends seated next to each other, which often leads to insular bubbles, or allowing more vocal personalities to dominate quieter spaces. Instead, he truly wanted everyone to connect on a deeper level. And that’s exactly what unfolded—strangers transformed into friends, acquaintances grew closer, phone numbers and Instagram handles were exchanged, and promises for future meet-ups post-NYFW were made. By the end of the night, everyone departed with the feeling that the fashion industry had become just a bit more intimate.
